1) This was a book for young children, but it was a chapter book. I think it's by Enid Blyton but I can't find it on Google. These 2 people, like fairies or something run away to like, Toyland. And they buy a house from a store and they have to build it themselves. They live on a hill, and they're friends with fairies and a big round toy that's a person. At one point they have a party where they have fresh milk from a cow and egg sandwiches from hens because they lost all their food or something.
2) This was a story about a girl who was a witch and she goes to a special witch boarding school. She is treated cruelly by teachers, they had to play a certain ball game and if they lost they had to get showered in freezing cold water or something. Someone lost their toes to frostbite from it. I also think she had a sort of dumb friend named Poppy who got locked in a dungeon. At the end there's some form of action scene I think, where they free Poppy from the dungeons and rats had been nibbling at her.
