Book I read about 8 years ago!

Hi,

I'm desperately trying to find the title of a book I read around 8 years ago. I'm pretty sure it was aimed at teens. I also think it was set in England/Wales, but could be wrong. The girl around 12/13 years old, also the narrator, had moved away from home with her mother. Her father had died cutting down a tree outside of their old house. She desperately missed her friends and I remember her talking about how the rain was so loud and heavy that she could send a message in a bottle to her friend back where she used to live..

Unfortunately thats all I can remember :( Please help me find this book!
